Allen Ellison Speaking

SEBRING, FL, February 12, 2020 — Allen Ellison, US Representative Candidate for Florida Dist. 17, slammed his opponent, Greg Steube (R), Sarasota, today for Steube’s radical plan to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency.

From regulating auto emissions to banning the use of DDT; from cleaning up toxic waste to protecting the ozone layer; from increasing recycling to revitalizing inner-city brownfields, Environmental Protection Agency’s achievements have resulted in cleaner air, purer water, and better protected land.

Ellison’s Congressional Campaign focuses on increasing the quality of life around District 17. He believes addressing environmental issues is a large part of that. According to Ellison, “We need the EPA to keep giant polluters in check. By eliminating the EPA Steube would forfeit Florida’s position as America’s vacation destination in favor of oil slicks and strip mining.”

“It’s unbelievable,” Ellison said, “At a time when Red Tide and blue/green algae threaten Florida’s all-important tourism industry, Steube is selling out to the giant fossil fuel industry and other polluters that don’t contribute to our local economy.”

Ellison went on to say, “Steube has already shown his radical agenda when it comes to the environment. He takes money from polluters like Mosaic Mining and Big Sugar and promotes the idea that offshore drilling would be okay if it simply takes place far enough away that we don’t see the rigs. Has he forgotten the Deepwater Horizon disaster of 2010 that threatened our Gulf Coast beaches with oil slicks?”

Steube made his plans known in an interview with conservative news outlet NewsMax. Steube said, “We shouldn’t have a federal EPA.” According to candidate Ellison, “Steube is out of touch with his constituent’s needs and with his fellow Republicans. Top Republicans have started to acknowledge the realities of rising seas and rapid climate change. Steube’s extreme rhetoric is dangerous by any measure.”
